Stolen away from Britain ‘cross the Eastern Sea
made to be a shepherd, met with suffering
stripped of all his comforts just before sixteen
then the Rock of Ages whispered in his dreams

Laborin’ as a farmhand, he began to know,
hidden in the belly of a beast, just how
all that he’d rejected as a Roman lad
was the only Savior he would ever have

In a pair of visions that he knew were true
time had come for freedom from this servitude
thus, he managed rivers & the mountains Slieve
finally to board a ship that was stayed to save

Like the wanderin’ Hebrews in the desert’s heat
they went near a month upon the foam & deep
there, what had sustained him through his darkest days,
held him like a Father as they made their way

Even as he settled back at home again
Victoricus dropped letters by the freed man’s bed
“The Voice o’ the Irish” was the letters’ name
thus, compelled, he knew he must return to them

“Holy Boy” they mocked him, still he spoke in love
brought the Gospel’s goodness to the land of Lugh
through his patient practice, Erin came to see
that the Sun of Righteousness arose to free
