New 03:08
Out of luck I climbed in my car numb to all the noise in the mirror I saw the mess I hastily withdrew All that night I sped through desert with the ghost of deeds once done saving grace seemed miles from Kingman same with Brawley, Cal When San Diego offered no rest I fell deeper still arms of lovers pulled me through fire that blinded as it burned Unable to see I cried aloud “Can’t you hear me, GOD” a gracious silence swept through my bones and, sobered then, I knew What I had known knew that I was wrong I knew the addict’s plight knew my heart was stifled knew that change was costly knew he’d stop at nothing knew he’d stop when I was new

Mighty King we will sing your praise meet us here In our joy we will sing your praise oh, draw near Enemies trembling they hear our song of adoration Who can stand in the presence of the Lamb here’s our song of dedication Weighted down, Lord hopeless, numb with wine from many years of bending wanting compromise yet you kept your promise yeah, you kept you promise Justice fall and tear away our fears right the wrongs of our creation Show your hand hastening the end and the day of salvation

Dark as sea on a moonless night cut by glory bright none could see When like a sheet stone was pushed aside Where could the body hide? It was complete Who could believe that three days dead body soaked in red he would live Oh how it was true more than ever before mercy has the final say and how death lay lifeless on the tomb's stone floor as the Father's love showed the way A man they knew unlike any seen wearing white as clean as morning dew Spoke of love with a tenderness impossible to miss oh what it proved

Settled seas, quieted storms rainfall in desert drought new wine at wedding feasts the Father's love, Father's peace Ailments gone, sight restored bread enough and thousands fed women heard and children held the promise real, promise felt Lame restored, tables turned wounds accounting everything finally the truth alive in hearts and souls, hands and minds

Wisdom/Life 04:14
Light across the ocean my reason gives way foolish thought to walk upon the waves O what wisdom, what life the faith of a child Quickly, I realize I’m stranded but alive No longer in pieces though bruised in many places Grace mends my limbs life is emptiness without this You are absolute and all I’ve known you keep callin’ me out from my ivory tower When I’m pressed by crashing waves you raise me up again to say “I am, I am” I am… On open water your Spirit has my hands tosses me to your shores where I crash-land Shipwrecked in your arms, helpless to depart Water from my lungs I sing freely now holy in your presence wholly overwhelmed Though the sea condemns your mercy saves

about

Why release a collection of songs first-penned a decade ago? Why spend months fine-tuning, undoing, redoing; seeking collaborators, conducting speaker-test after car test after headphone test -- all for something that is tantamount to a sonic diary? Why post songs in this over-saturated world-of-music wherein originality seems an impossibly tall order? Why indeed.

I don't have answers to those questions, but I will say this: I haven't shared anything "on my own" since 2007, so I suppose, in part, it's about time. More than that though, this batch of songs features some musicians I used to write with on a regular basis; but I haven't been able to collaborate with them in a long while, and I wanted to see what would be the result of their creative contributions.

Further, this humble EP represents four (the odd numbered tracks above) of the twenty-some songs I've been shaping and reshaping for the past ten years; and as I explored the boundaries of these songs, they each seemed to call for elongated endings. Over time, those endings evolved into songs of their own (the even numbered tracks above); hence, this eight-song EP came into being.

Finally, I had the honor of building these songs alongside many beautiful and talented people -- perhaps most importantly, my sister, Bekah, who was able to add her voice to the final track before she passed. In the end, I hope you find the melodies in this collection engaging; I hope the music proves interesting and the lyrics compelling, and I hope this album is a fitting companion to whatever adventures autumn may bring.

Thanks for listening!
